Clearing Up Common MedSpa Myths with Confidence
At Lake Oconee MedSpa, we know that misinformation can make aesthetic treatments feel overwhelming. That is why at Lake Oconee MedSpa, we focus on education, transparency, and trust. This January, we are hosting a MedSpa Myth Buster event at each of our locations – Watkinsville, GA & Lake Oconee, GA- to answer real questions in a welcoming environment. These insights are guided by Marissa Highnote, owner and founder of Lake Oconee MedSpa, a Physician Assistant with extensive clinical training and more than ten years of injection experience.
Myth One: You Can Schedule Fillers Anytime Around Dental Visits
Filler injections and dental work should never overlap too closely. We recommend avoiding filler treatments for two weeks before and two weeks after dental work, even routine cleanings. Dental procedures can introduce bacteria that may interact with fillers, leading to complications long after treatment. Proper timing is key to maintaining safe and long lasting results.
Myth Two: DiamondGlow™ and Hydrafacials Deliver the Same Results
Although both treatments exfoliate and hydrate the skin, the technology differs. DiamondGlow™ uses physical exfoliation with a diamond tip, offering consistent resurfacing with less irritation for many patients. Hydrafacials relies on chemical exfoliants, which may be harsher for sensitive skin. DiamondGlow™ also uses medical-grade skincare infusions and typically includes areas such as the eyes and lips at no additional cost.
Myth Three: Botox Is Only for Cosmetic Use
Botox is not just for smoothing fine lines. Patients who experience jaw pain, TMJ symptoms, or nighttime teeth grinding can benefit from Botox injections into the masseter muscles on both sides of your jaw. This treatment relaxes the jaw, reduces tension, and can provide relief for up to six months while also creating a slimmer jawline for some patients.
Myth Four: IPL and BBL Are the Same Technology
IPL and BBL are often talked about as if they are different technologies, but in reality, BBL utilizes several filters of the IPL system. This allows providers to treat multiple skin concerns, such as pigmentation, redness, and acne-causing bacteria, using the same light-based technology. When patients ask for BBL, they are receiving an advanced IPL treatment designed with greater precision and customization to match their skin goals.
